In the spring of 2016 Jan and I started a Bible study in our home in Cuenca, Ecuador. That Bible study soon became Iglesia Bautista el Peregrino (Pilgrim Baptist Church). After we returned to the United States in December of 2017 the church continued on as if we had never left. Even through the pandemic of 2020 Pilgrim Baptist Church survived, and even prospered. One of the ministries begun after Jan and I returned to the States, was a ministry to the deaf community of Cuenca, a group of people who are ignored by most churches in Ecuador. Mauricio Bermeo is working with Pastor Díez to reach out to the dozens of families in Cuenca who because of their hearing impairment have little hope of ever being exposed to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
