Do you know who the God of the Bible is?
Do you know for certain that you will spend eternity in heaven with God?
Some people think that a person cannot know such a thing, but the Bible says that you can know for sure that you will live with God in heaven for eternity!
“These things have I written unto you… that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” (1 John 5:13)
For a good part of my adult life I worried about what would happen to me after I died. I was unsure and afraid of what God would do to me on the day of judgment. I thought about death quite often, because for 15 years I was a police officer in a large city, and almost on a weekly basis my life was put in jeopardy. I once stopped a fleeing drunk driver. When I opened the door of the car, the woman who was driving the car tried to stab me in my stomach with a six inch knife. Later when she was asked by police detectives why she tried to kill a police officer with a knife, she said that she only tried to stab me because she couldn’t get the gun loaded that was in her purse. This kind of thing happening to me at work made me think about where I would spend eternity when I died.
Today I have a personal relationship with God, and I know for sure that I will spend eternity in heaven with God. A couple of years after I received eternal life from God, I was working the night shift and I chased a man who was shooting an automatic rifle in the air. When he saw my police car approaching him, he fled and tried to hide in the dark beside a house. As I approached him on foot he threw his loaded rifle on the ground and surrendered. I’m glad he didn’t shoot and kill me, but if he had, I know that I would spend eternity in heaven with God.
If God were to ask you why He should let you into His heaven, what reason would you give Him to allow you in?
People answer this question many different ways; some people say that they should be allowed to live in heaven for eternity because they are “good people,” that is, they are better than many other people and their good deeds outweigh their bad deeds. Some say they should have eternal life because they were baptized and that they attend church. Others believe they will someday live in heaven because they obey the Ten Commandments. The Bible says such thinking is wrong:
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10-12)
No person is good enough in the sight of God to earn their way into heaven. Again the Bible says:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)
No person has ever kept all of the Ten Commandments for their entire life, and how good is good? No person is good in the eyes of God. All people are in reality enemies of God. We have all sinned against His holy law. It would be irrational for God to give unrighteous enemies a place in His holy kingdom.
?For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.? (Romans 8:6-7)
“But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God… ” (Galatians 3:11)
In spite of your sinfulness, in spite of the fact that you are an enemy of God, He still loves you, and it is His desire that you spend eternity in Heaven with Him:
?The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.? (2 Peter 3:9)
God takes no pleasure from the death of an enemy, and apart from the grace of God you will surely die and spend eternity in a lake of fire. You can do nothing to save yourself. It is only by the grace of God that a person may be saved from the consequences of their many sins and receive the gift of eternal life.
?For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.? (Ephesians 2:8-9)
God has a standard for getting into heaven, and that standard is perfection:
?Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God…? (1Corinthians 6:9)
The Bible tells us that we are not able to measure up to God’s standard. It tells us that we are all sinners, and have violated the law of God:
?For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;? (Romans 3:23)
The Bible also tells us that there are consequences to our sin, and the consequences are death, eternal separation from God:
?For the wages of sin is death…? (Romans 6:23)
Yet we know that God loves us because He created us:
“…God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,” (Ephesians 2:4).
But God is also a just God, He will not allow the guilty to go unpunished:
“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:4)
We are therefore all faced with a problem. Our problem is that we all deserve to go to Hell:
“But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)
But there is GOOD NEWS!– for God solved our sin problem for us:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
God made a way out for us all, and that way out is through His gracious gift. To receive His gift you must believe in Jesus Christ. Believing is not just believing in the facts, but believing is placing your complete confidence in Jesus and what he did to pay for your sins. The Bible says this about how a person receives the gift of eternal life:
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:9-10, 13)
God wants you to be in heaven with Him. God wants you to receive His gift of eternal life, but this gift can only be received through His Son Jesus:
Jesus saith…, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)
God will not force you to go to heaven. However, you can decide to rebel against His plan for you. You can do things your own way. You can choose not to believe the Bible. You have the freedom to reject the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, but beware:
“A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.” (Proverbs 14:16)
I cannot remember a time in my life where I did not know that there was a day of judgment for me after my death. I believe all men know that someday there is a payday. Someday all men will surely stand before a holy righteous God and give an account for all of their actions.
?And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire,? (Revelation 20:12,15)
You can receive God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ right now. You can escape that great day of judgment and instead of a death sentence you may receive life with God. If you desire to receive God?s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, then call on him. Ask him for this gift right now. You can go to God in prayer right now!
HERE IS A SUGGESTED PRAYER:
“Lord Jesus Christ, I know that I have sinned against a holy God, and that I do not by any measure deserve eternal life, but by faith I believe you died on a cross for me to pay the penalty that I owe for my many sins, and that you rose from the grave to purchase a place in heaven for me. Jesus, forgive me of my sins and save me from the eternal judgment I deserve in a lake of fire. I now place my trust in you alone for my salvation. I accept your free gift of eternal life. Amen!”
If you just prayed this prayer, and it was an expression of the sincere desire of your heart to trust Jesus Christ alone for your eternal destiny, then you now possess God’s gift of eternal life! This is what Jesus says to those who trust in him for their eternal life:
?Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.? (John 6:47)
If you have just placed your faith in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you have just received the gift of eternal life, you are now a child of God forever!
Nothing can ever change that!
Welcome to the family of God!
